Sam Killermann

Sam Killermann Michigan City, IN
Law & Society

I’m involved in: Student Orientation Committee, Boiler Gold Rush, Purdue Opportunity Awards Support Program, Mortar Board
In my spare time, I: play a lot of soccer (indoor and outdoor), nap when I can, eat when I’m not napping, catch up with old friends, meet new friends, and take small road trips on my motorcycle
Dream job: I really, really, really, really want to be a trophy husband.  That is my dream.  If that doesn’t work out, I want to be a standup comedian.  In the meantime I will be going to graduate school in hopes of pursuing a back-up career in higher education working with orientation or first-year support programs.
Favorite local restaurant: Rice Café
Favorite pig-out food: Rice Café Chicken Lo Mein
Most embarrassing moment: I went on a fountain run in khaki shorts.  Let’s just say I wasn’t nearly as aware of how transparent khaki shorts get when they become drenched in water as all of my friends now are.
Most memorable Purdue experience:Finding out I was selected as the chair of the Student Orientation Committee.  The entire office staff as well as the old SOC was singing Hail Purdue (one of my favorite jams) outside of my classroom waiting for me to come out holding a sign that said, “Will you be our Chair?”
When I feel like spoiling myself, I: Eat—a lot—while watching movies
Favorite book: Devil in the White City
Favorite movie: Snatch/Cannibal! The Musical
Acquaintances would be surprised to know:  I’ve suffered more than 10 concussions.
Favorite cartoon character:  Batman—because he’s both a cartoon character and a real person.
Funniest Purdue experience: Pulling an all-nighter before the first orientation supervisor retreat that we planned.  We were arts and crafting it up, exhausted and excited, and delirious from a combination of sleep deprivation and permanent marker/spray paint fumes—I’ve never laughed more in my life
I’m inspired by: Words—famous, memorable words said or written by historical giants and non-famous, memorable words said or written by those in my life
Why I chose Purdue: Choice implies there were other schools to consider attending.  I never did, and never have since had such a thought—best non-decision I’ve ever made.
Best-kept secret about Purdue: The professors really aren’t that tough.  Once you crack through their intimidating outer shell you’ll find that they all have a compassionate, gooey center.
What's playing on my IPod: Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl.”
