Statistics at Purdue University is the only doctorate-granting program in statistics in Indiana and is consistently rated by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 10 departments in the United States. Students enjoy a great deal of interaction with faculty as well as small classes. For students with excellent preparation in high school, the department offers a master’s program in which a student can earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in five years.

Careers

Most statistics majors continue on to graduate school or enter professional programs such as law school, medical school, or business programs. Some decide to teach. Others become sports statisticians or work for cities as database managers, cryptologists, mathematicians, or market researchers. In addition, students learn communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving skills as well as the necessary technical skills for positions in a number of industries.
