Changing Majors During STAR

Between July 17 and August 18, 2017, admitted students who want to request admission to a different disciplinary college (switch) must do the following (no switches will be accepted during STAR):

  1. Complete a switch form (provided by their original academic advisor) and have it approved* both by an academic advisor within their original college and an advisor in the college to which they want to switch. The form should include a thorough explanation of why they want to switch.
  2. Submit the approved form to the Office of Admission (by email,, or in person).

*When reviewing the switch form, academic advisors should ensure the program the student wants has space and that the student meets the minimum requirements. See table below.

Upon receipt of the form, Admissions will re-evaluate the student for admission to their requested program. Admissions will begin accepting switch requests on July 17, 2017.

Students who have earned a Trustees or Presidential scholarship WILL LOSE THEIR SCHOLARSHIP if they switch out of the college to which they were admitted originally.

Students who were not admitted to their first-choice major for academic reasons will not be switched into that program. Transfer students should refer to the closed programs web page to determine whether a program they want is accepting transfer students. If their desired program is not closed, transfer students should visit the Admissions office to request a switch.
