School of Veterinary Medicine

  • Prospective students interested in becoming veterinarians must complete a minimum of two years of pre-veterinary college courses before being eligible to compete for admission to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. These students begin their pre-veterinary studies in another Purdue college/school, such as the College of Agriculture or the College of Science.
  • Students interested in becoming a veterinary technician (associate degree) or veterinary technologist (bachelor’s degree) will find excellent programs in the School of Veterinary Medicine. The school offers a medicine-intensive, science-based, hands-on curriculum and the unique opportunity to work with a wide variety of species during clinical rotations in Purdue’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
  • Veterinary technology/technician graduates have many career options including serving as part of a veterinary hospital healthcare team, assisting in pet behavior counseling, contributing to scientific breakthroughs on a biomedical research team, working with a herd health professional to protect livestock from disease, and working for a zoo. Purdue veterinary technician graduates enter their profession at salaries that are higher than the national average for beginning professionals.
